In 1941, the Federal Enrichment Act
passes; millers, bakers, and cereal manufacturers must bring the nutritive content to
their products to that of whole wheat by restoring iron, thiamin, riboflavin, and niacin
lost in the milling or processing.
Bon Appétit begins as a free
promotional booklet distributed through liquor stores in 1955.
Swanson introduces the first
TV dinner in 1953; turkey, mashed potatoes and peas.
James Beard publishes his first book, Hors d'Oeuvre and Canapés in
1940.
